Rural homestay

Lasting memories and perspectives shift!

The safari in the national parks with the wild animals is often a fantastic experience, but staying with families in the rural is even more rewarding. For many visitors its the thing that is really talked about afterwards. It is also very educative to learn to fetch water, cook food by simple means, having no electricity, and so on. Many visitors with this experience will come back home with a completely new look at the world.

A typical homestay may last from one to three nights. But we also have visitors who stay for longer periods.

The homes are carefully selected. Most families, but not all, have some previous experiende of bazungu (whites) visitors. The homes are simple but sufficient to cater for the needs, bedroom with made-up beds, mosquito nets, etc. The toilets are usually simple but clean latrins situated outside. The food is basic but well cooked and healthy.

We always provide a guide/interpreter who will aid the visitors with all the practical and cultural things that are needed to know. The guide will also sleep in the same house.

The host families are usually either amongst the Baganda or the Banyoro and will be carefully choosen by our trusted network. The network is made up of headteachers for rural schools so there will be a good chance of visiting a school as well.

Please note that the homestays are not done by coincidence. The families are contacted in advance by one of our networkers who prepare them for the visit. The family is reimbursed for all food and costs involved. We make it a point that the hosting families also feel that they themselves benefit culturally and socially.
